Arrived safe and sound, packaged well. No SATA cable but that’s fairly standard (just mentioning it for people). My drive is nice and quiet, can’t hear it over case fans which are very quiet (Noctua fans) so that’s fantastic.

Speeds are good for a mechanical drive. You get a big burst speed writing to it then it will slow down. So really large files definitely take longer than an SSD but for say 5GB transfers it’s fairly negligible due to buffer. On larger files it will slow from burst speeds of 300-400MB/s down to 170MB/s or so. Slower if lots of smaller files. Obviously a huge difference from 550MB/s of a good SSD drive or 1400MB/s of a good NVMe drive but this is after all just a storage drive.

Price is great, solid performance, nice and quiet. No complaints here! If it were for any kind of proper backup drive I’d go for WD reds or similar but just for storing movies, tv shows or as an extra backup for your tablets/laptops etc it does the job nicely.

I have had this hard drive for over a year and it’s great. It works well and store so much. Will buy again for my next computer. It was very easy to install. It came well packaged, and shipping was fast.

Here’s what I did on my part to check the product in as much detail as possible:

    – Firstly, I connected it to the SATA & power cables with decent care. Started AOMEI Partition Assistant to check for bad sectors. Started making a 2TB partition, but it showed bad sectors were being found constantly. Therefore obviously I aborted the process and started a quick check (go for the long one if you have enough time) for bad sectors. Much to my surprise there were no bad sectors found (Note that this was the quick check which took 14 minutes). Great right? Well no.
    – I realised that this may not be the case as many reviewers had bad sectors and the packaging was subpar at best. So now I installed SeaTools and did a SMART check, it passed. Great. Then, I went for the Long Generic test (more reliable) which took some time and…the result was ‘FAIL’. After some research, I decided to use the ‘Fix All Long’ option in SeaTools. [I will update this after the check is done]
If this doesn’t fix anything then the product is useless and I will replace it. Although I think at this point its a matter of chance because replacing won’t do any wonders, as long as the packaging is disastrous, there is no way to tell that the HDD you will get is damaged or not until checked. Thing is, I really regret buying another HDD from Amazon (I have previous experience), if you can, try other great options like ‘MDComputers’ or ‘PrimeABGB’. They are both great, reliable and offer reasonable prices.

NOTE: Another very important thing to notice here is that almost all the people buying this don’t realise that its a SMR drive which in other words means that it has slower write speeds and by that I mean real slow, thats part of the reason why the product is so cheap. Seagate doesn’t include this in their page to ‘scare’ their consumers away, WD does the same. The point is beware of what you are buying, take notice of the model number and research and get a non-SMR (PMR) drive if write speeds matter to you otherwise this might be a great choice for you considering the price. This type of drive is for archiving or storing for the long term not great for daily writing use, though it can read just fine. Its made for ‘write once, read many’ cases.

This is the best HDD for storing data which will used occasionally. Using this to store game setup files and XPG S70 blade for playing games

Easy to install in my pc, 4 terabytes is really good for the price it’s at and it got it on black Friday so that was nice. In general it’s nice better than most other hard drives and a similar price

After reading a lot of negative reviews I was not confident of buying online. I finally took my chances and bought the 4TB variant. Product was well packed and worked on 1st boot.
Immediately put it on extended 7 Hrs. diagnostic test to check for any bad sectors. Lucky enough to find NONE.
Read speed during tests found to be 100-150 MBPS. Write speed is 60-80 MBPS.
This is decent for a desktop drive considering the amount of storage you getting for price. Good VFM.
This is not for gaming, although you can run games from this drive but loading times will be higher.
Skip this HDD and buy an SSD if gaming is your preference.

Does it’s job as per the item description.
Usually provides consistent 180-190 Mbps while writing.
This can be used as secondary storage for gaming PC where you can keep Media and Game setups.
Prefer SSDs as installation drive as this drive is 5400RPM and will show some loading time if used for game instalations.

People are rating 1 Star for their foolish ness. Drives over 2 TB needs GPT Partitions to format properly.

This is how you setup HDD over 2 TB.

[IMP] – Most of the cases Windows have a Master Boot Record (MBR) as Default. It uses the standard BIOS partition table.

[IMP] – GUID Partition Table (GPT) disks use Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI). One advantage of GPT disks is that you can have more than four partitions on each disk. GPT is also required for disks larger than two terabytes (TB).

You can change a disk from MBR to GPT partition style as long as the disk contains no partitions or volumes.

The DRIVE is only good for storage purpose and not for active read and writes. Its only 1.6 GigaBit read write.

My Hard disk crashed. It had been Seagate Barracuda. It was pretty old and making wierd noises for sometime warning me of its intent to retire. I myself am suffering and realize its pain. New HDD was a must. My dad did most of the install job at my instruction, he is 80 years. Well it is not economic but optimally priced for its specifications. I don’t know Amazon’s obsession with gaming… But I have no intention of gaming… It’s my first day in front of my working PC after long time and I intent on writing this review, enjoying and thanking Seagate for it!
