I have a sonos sound system with the full set, two sonos 5 speakers as surround, 1 playbar and 1 sonos sub. With my onboard sound card, the audio and surrounds didn’t sound right. I’ve lost surround sound very often and for such high end speaker system, it was simply insufficient. I’ve tried using modded Realtek drives to enable Dolby but then regular audio sounded horrific.

I’ve received X3 and connected to my computer today. I’ve used spdif interface to connect the playbar to X3 output. If you want Dolby Digital Live encoded output on your spdif, you can do that. Make sure your source is in Dolby Digital to hear your surround speakers come to life. For Windows apps (youtube, browsers, etc.), you still can still get amazing surround sound.

I must emphasize I do hear difference in audio quality between Sound Blaster X3 vs MSI Meg z390 Ace onboard Realtek audio. Sound Blaster X3 has the superior DAC and simply better output quality. DAC modes such as Roll-Off methods are also supported and god sent if you’re into HI-FI systems and you know the characteristics of your speakers very well. If you’re looking for a great quality audio upgrade for your desktop, laptop or console, I’d highly suggest giving X3 a go.

To this date, I’ve had never seen an software audio effect actually helping or sounding good. However, SBX effects that are run on Creative X3’s sound engine are an exception to this. “Crystalization and Smart Volume” definitely helps with clarity for low resolution audio like mp3, standard windows gaming audio. I’ve had long forgotten a dedicated sound card was needed but seems like I’m back in game.

update: i’ve tried sxfi with campfire andromeda gold special editions. If I disable the sxfi, the sound is just okay. There’s no soundstage to find for some reason. However as soon as I enabled sxfi, damn… I mean this is a 100 dollar DAC, yet sxfi has such immersion and sounds so clear that mp3 tracks sound like my $800 ibasso dx200 dac/amp lossless tracks. Go figure. This wasn’t the reason I got this DAC but sxfi is totally worth it for lossy audio files and most likely game sounds as well. To be honest, I’ve thought this would be all gimmick but nope, this is wow.

At 20k this is costlier than X4 and G6 which are Creative’s flagships in this segment. This don’t deserve to be amazon fulfilled.

I loved it, its not feature stacked but its more then enough on that price point and it works flawless. From FPS to movie watching to only music. I love it. Every genera has its own preference and can play with EQ and find that perfect sweet spot which i want. And yea every kind of headphones with 3.5 jack is supported. ( USB headphones NOT Supported ). I would suggest you to go for it.

Period. Better day, better components (caps), and cheaper.

Xfi degrade your audio quality but add a lot of immersion, feel like the sound is coming from the speakers around you instead, its so real that sometime I need to take off my headphone to make sure the sound is not coming from the speakers itself. which is perfect anything requiring directional like gaming.

I bought this unit back in June and I am really impressed with the quality of sound and the various ways you can attach to your computer. I use the Optical, just a personal preference. I would recommend this product in a heartbeat! 5/5

Bought this simply because the fact that it can mix two audio sources with individual volume control for each, ex. game audio and discord voice chat. I bought this for that feature but got so much more! The audio quality and build are excellent. I saw another review that mentioned the same thing I saw; bad build quality reviews on youtube, and was skeptical but was instantly proven wrong when I opened the package, it’s very solidly built and delivers amazing quality audio with minimal setup on my computer. The SXFI feature works great when you take the time to get good pictures of your ear/faces, initially, it sounded bad but I’ve come to enjoy the feature and find myself clicking the button all the time. This DAC does not disappoint when paired with my DT 770 PRO 80 Ohm cans.

When we play 5.1 content it is working as expected. Sound quality is increased even when we give input to X3 through 3.5 mm jack.

I have some critical issue with 5.1 speaker configuration. I am working with creative support for fixing that one.
If the issue is not resolved, I will have to return that product.
I was not expecting this kind of experience from a product which is having higher cost
