Review after 20days , this review is too long not worth reading for those familiar with boards and ics. If you thought of using yourold li ion or want to buy li ion and use this charger and have enough doubts and lack confidence but want to do something this is for you!
Why did I buy?
– I haD MU06 HP laptop battery worth 4k which was a original replacement bought in approx 2017 as laptop died last year and battery fully discharged state sitting idle almost for one year, opened them carefully found 4 of them at 2.75v and 2 of them at 2.5v after disconnecting board, .after charging them and studying and research the specific datasheet, charged them with normal phone charger (as I didn’t want order this before checking battery,) continually monitoring for hours only with 100mA current.. WITHOUT EXCEEDING 4.0V And found they were pretty stable in volatge and and can hold some almost 50% capacity approx. I want to use them in old torch and radio give them new life!
Caution! Risk of explosion and fire 🔥 only do it if you know what you are doing.. And in open place which cannot caught in fire use eye protection.
Phone 5v charger cannot be used to charge li ion as it raises voltage to 5v but lion is limited to 4.2v normally. So you need a board to suitable charge with trickle when li ion is low state and stop charge at 4.2v which is hard to manually do in 5v chargers
Bought
5pcs at rs 257 including shipping it had 10 days worry free return policy which is important Kindly check the return policy at time of order as seller can change it within seconds.
Packaging:
1. Package wrapped in bubble wrap, satisfactory.
Item condition:
1. Out of 5 one had a scratch on backside which made some copper visible, but it was working I didn’t want to waste 15days replacing it
2. But all seem unused and new
3. All boards were working perfectly fine
Quality:
1. Board is of normal cheap quality as you can see in image backside of board the heat dissipation copper pad is only 1/3rd of board size, you can find boards which has full board size heat dissipation which is plus point
2. The micro usb port female is not very well secured but it works , in long run it may come off the board.
Heating: -ve 100/5
1. The R3 resistor is of 1.2kohm by default in board and output of 1A to charge battery,
But the charging IC gets super heated, you cannot touch it with bare hand it can’t handle the heat generated and may fail or risk of fire 🔥 to itself or other components
It gets as hot as a heated pan which definitely makes its life short and high risk of board failure and hence the li ion battery may damage..
2. As you can see in the pic I have uploaded you need to change the resistor from 1.2k to atleast 2k ohm, it delivers 580mA but still it gets pretty hot, but it can handle it as per me, I have put 2 of board with 2k ohm resistor and they get hot but they are fine I hope.. Can use 5% resistor no problem, can find smd in old nokia charger.
3. I coundnt find other resistor so used 2 boards with 5kohm resistor they stay cool.. But it takes hours and hours to fully charge a massive 2800mah battery but they work! Found the 5k ohm resistor inside laptop battery charging board
IF YOU CANNOT REPLACE SMD RESISTOR DO NOT BUY, forget placing heatsink it’s worth a days work!
Board characteristics as tested:( proper datasheet not available seller must provide it as link)
1. 2.5mA board current consumption when nothing is connected.
2. 2.5v battery cut off voltage to external load
(Deep discharge cut off) but my battery was 2.7v cut off 😂 I should not go too low..
3. I did not risk testing for short circuit
4.trickle charge (100to 180ma) when battery below 2.9v approx not studied extensively but it’s working..
5. Current starts dropping shaply and gets lower and lower stopps when approaching 4.2v
6. Full current charging as per R3 Resistor value between 2.9v and 4.0v approx.
7. Red charging and blue fully charged
Connection;
1. This board even though it has tiny holes it’s very hard to find screws which can be used to fix this board on something
2. You need to weld small pins or gi wire to fit it or use hot glue I don’t have that so welded and fixed into platic body.
Many battery’s in parallel:
1. Yes you can use but it takes long long time to charge them
Conclusion:
1. Only buy if you are capable of replacing SMD resistor and ok with less than 580ma charging ,board is capable of only this load. If you are in hot climate it maybe even less maybe 400ma or less..
2. On board IC –
Charger- 4056H 3111370
Battery protection – DW01-A
And 8205LA A000953
3.boards work good and charge your li ion!
I am not responsible for any form of trouble or danger by using above info, do not take above info with full value, follow manufacturer and guidelines for li ion and other safety.
Do at your own risk
